Hotel Review- The Viceroy Anguilla

On a long stretch of the quiet and only road intertwining in the middle of Anguilla stands the impressive, modern, marble filled gates leading into a perfectly landscaped haven that is The Viceroy Anguilla. As the flagship property for the Viceroy brand, this hotel chain has really outdone itself.

The Viceroy

The Viceroy entrance

When first entering the long well-manicured drive, you feel as if you have entered a serene Summer palace for the elite. The circular valet is small in comparison to the large entrance where the staff awaits your arrival and exudes the pleasure they have in welcoming you to their pride and treasured paradise-like setting.

Other than the obvious expense and detail that was allotted to the grounds, the first thing noticed is the exceptional and obvious desire of the staff to welcome the guests to their home and make them feel relaxed amongst the grand setting.

The entrance covets designer design with attention to detail and structure from renowned designer Kelly Wearstler. The modern designs are often obscure and weighted but somehow come together effortlessly. The colors come from a dark desert landscape of neutrals and earthy tones giving a comforting feel all around. As you pass the entrance and onto the main grounds the design and layout make you feel welcomed and at ease.

The Sunset Lounge situated to the left of the main area has an open-air setting leading to an infinity pool teasing the horizon and acting as common ground for hotel guests to gaze at the Sunset and the magical blue Anguillan waters below the cliffs edge. Here you can gather for congregation all while feeling the warmth of the Caribbean air surrounding you. The lounge feels more like a living room with over-sized earth toned stuffed sofas and edgy wood and glass tables, statues mimicking the same obscure design in the entrance and with all sides completely open allowing for a gentle breeze to wrap around the patrons with subtle care. A perfect setting to relax at the end of a hot beach day and enjoy a cocktail while experiencing a flawless sunset.

The property is massive requiring golf carts to comfortably maneuver around. To the West end lies villas lined along the cliffs edge and some hovering above a sweet and tucked away beach. To the opposite end of the property lies the main buildings of the resort with hotel rooms and residences that have their own stretch of beach reaching to the east of the island.

The resort offers five restaurants to capture tastes of various cuisines like Italian, Asian, Mediterranean and local fare. The Mediterranean restaurant, The Half Shell, lies on the west end hugging the beach offering traditional Mediterranean dishes like tabbouleh salad and mezzes. The local fare fish restaurant, Bamboo Bar and Grill, mirrors this idea and hugs itself on the beach at the east end of the resort offering Caribbean tastes and a variety of seafood. The sunrise pool restaurant, Aleta, is situated on the banks of the Pointe House Pool and offers a tasting of casual poolside dishes. Or if you choose, you can sample sushi at the Sunset Lounge in the main area. The Italian fare restaurant, Coba, is enclosed and perched on the edge of a cliff leaving for a magnificent view of the resort and coastline.

There is also a spa and fitness center to enjoy a full menu of services and workouts catering to all types of needs. Tennis courts, a rock-climbing wall, fully equipped gym with a pilates studio, spin class room and personal trainers available at all times of the day. The spa’s terrace is enough to compete for one of the best views at the resort.

If you’re lucky enough to stay at this hotel, then consider yourself lucky enough. There isn’t a room that could be considered mediocre with the bulk of the rooms offering anywhere from 483 sq feet in a King sized room to 976 sq feet in a one-bedroom suite. All offering gourmet kitchens, laundry facilities and verandas that include your own private plunge pool.

And if you’re one of the uber-lucky ones and find yourself securing a Viceroy villa for your stay in Anguilla, you will be the envy of all you have the joy of bragging about it to. There are 31 Villas on the property encompassing upwards of 5356 sq feet and 5 bedrooms all with their own infinity pools, spa tubs and massive views with complete privacy. The attention to detail with dual master suites both having its own indoor and outdoor showers and doors that open to an impressive terrace and pool area make the decision of who sleeps where a task. A nanny’s quarter is included in the guest house of the larger villas for those bringing the entire family. The chef’s gourmet kitchen in each villa is fitting since the hotel has gourmet chefs to offer a private dining experience right in the comfort of your temporary home. Butler service is provided to add to the attractiveness. And should you decide to make this temporary home one of permanence, you can do that also, for a price. Residences at the Viceory are available starting at $700,000 ranging to $7 million.

I wouldn’t be thorough if I didn’t mention the staff and service as the hotel’s number one attraction. All of the amenities, beauty and design wouldn’t mean a thing if the staff fell short of 5-star expectations. From the moment guests walk onto the property to the moment guests sadly check out, the staff is the star of the show, not leaving any detail unnoticed, a need unserved or a request unmanaged. They will go above and beyond to ensure every minute detail is taken care of all while a smile is firmly planted on each and every one of their faces. When other patrons step out of their way to stop the general manager to reiterate their please with the hotel as often happens here, you know you have something special.

This hotel is special due to the impeccable management. You cannot have a staff run on this precision and dedication without having a strong leader rooting them on. Impeccable service and care has gone into making The Viceroy Anguilla the top of my list for luxury hotels.

And if you are lucky enough to visit The Viceroy Anguilla by chance, then by God, you are lucky enough.
